A love of the countryside inspired me to paint. I am mainly self taught but have recently studied painting and drawing with the Open College of the Arts from which I was awarded a Certificate in Higher Education in 2003 from the University of Glamorgan. I have exhibited with the Windsor Art Society, the South East Federation of Art Societies and more recently with the Chertsey Art Society.
Although I enjoy a wide variety of subjects, I find inspiration in the surrounding landscape of Surrey as well as the Pembrokeshire coast of which I am a frequent visitor. I look for design in nature, colour combinations of contrasting and complementary colours and tonal contrasts, which I express in oils, acrylics, watercolours, pastels and mixed media. I enjoy the free application of the media, marks on the canvas, delighting in the combinations of colour and tone regardless of the subject. I look to capture something of the nature of the subject, a way of painting it so that I can place myself within a subject so that it again can be experienced in paint.
