For several years I was searching for material which is derived from natural sources aiming to imply to human beings. I found that paper has a lot of similarities and qualities as the human skin. It creases and changes colour with time; it becomes fragile and sensitive; just like the human skin. Therefore I use the paper as a metaphor.
The pigments I use are not the traditional pigments used by artists in the past or present. I was searching for unusual/ different pigments and methods to complete the visual idea. One of my methods is using a pigment that many women today and in the history used on their skin in order to appear more attractive, to cover or emphasise their features – make up. The make up is applied on the paper which is being applied on canvas.
Another method is using layers of paper to simulate the layers of the skin and layers some humans apply in order to conceal the person behind. As I am interested in revealing that which usually remain unrevealed and only guessed at….what lays underneath the surface, the layers beneath the façade.
